Vampires

Oh vampires! What is with this obsession with vampires? There are countless books and movies about them. Sometimes they are the heroes, sometimes their villains, in some cases they are both. We hate them because, well, we’re their food and they are immortal. We love them because they are beautiful, mysterious, and immortal. A bit of a love hate relationship if you ask me! Most recently we have the Twilight Series. Originally the novels were written for young adults, now has become a world wide phenomenon for adults and young adults (granted mainly of the female kind). And last week the movie adaptation opened, with a $ 35 million debut, as well as, being historical because this was the first time that a female director had the highest grossing movie. Where the lead character is a sixteen year old girl who falls for (yep you guessed) it a vampire. He’s not your average run of the mill vampire, he’s a vegetarian. A vegetarian?! How so you ask?! Well it means he doesn’t suck human blood, just the blood of animals. So he’s a “good” vampire. A good vampire!! He fights a bad vampire to save the girl he loves. Yet myths portrays them as cold-blooded (yes pun intended) killers. Oh vampires...love them or hate them. They are fascinating.
