Apple Cup
By Todd Schafer
When was the last time a winless football team was favored by seven over anybody? That is exactly what happened today in the Apple Cup where Washington was favored by seven over Washington State. Washington State "upset" the favorite to keep Washington at a win less 0-11. One might say that such a victory kept Apple Cup participant Washington "rotten to the core." The game is named the Apple Cup because of all the apples produced in Washington. In this case (sorry Donny Osmond), it took two bad apples to spoil the whole bunch, girl. Also this hummer of a game resulted in a few interesting prop bets: 1.) You could get 100:1 odds by betting the game ended in a zero zero tie. (suckers bet as the odds are more like 100K to 1) 2.) Over/under of 3.5 for turnovers in the game....and so on. It's rather ironic that the game did end in a tie (10-10), so it took two overtimes to decide the winner (Washington State 16-13) between these two titans. |
